Guess what bestselling Christian Author has written another book? Yeah, that one. I read it. To procrastinate. It, sadly, lacks the homosexual subplot of the previous book. But the writing is still horrible.

So, let's look at it. For fun.

A STUNNING MASTERPIECE IN NAMEDROPPING PRODUCTS AND WEBSITESCollapse )

ROOMS: A NOVEL - PART TWO

Let's finish this thing off. There will be times when I explain plot points. They will sound like I made them up and cannot possibly be real. Just. Just go along with me. Please.

Let's have more pointless movie trivia paired up with some heavy male-on-male attraction!Collapse )

The author, James Rubart, has written another book, entitled Book of Days: A Novel. I may. If I hate myself enough. Try reading that one, too. It also takes place in Oregon. Oh boy.

ROOMS: A NOVEL - PART ONE

My mother is reading a book. The cover of it says things like:

"An extraordinary read. Part The Screwtape Letters, part The Shack."

"Rooms is one of the best books I’ve read in the past year. If you like The Shack, I think you’ll like Rooms. If you didn’t like The Shack, I bet you’ll love Rooms. This story got under my skin and it’s going to be there for a long, long time."

"If Frank Peretti had written The Shack, you might come close to having a book as great as Rooms."

"Rooms is being touted as another great among Christian allegories, such as Dinner with A Perfect Stranger or The Shack. I believe it will be the twenty-first century’s Hind’s Feet on High Places or Pilgrim’s Progress."

If you have been reading my LJ since Japan, you may recall my treatment of The Shack. It's awful. It's Evangelical Christian Fiction. Evangelical Christian in front of almost anything translates, about 95% of the time, to "poorly done and with a sledgehammer of a message that you will be beaten with until you cannot move." This book did not disappoint. In that it is awful in every way imaginable.

The following is a selection of random quotes with my terrible comments attached to them. I'll probably do another batch of them tomorrow. I read this book within about 20 hours. It's driven me to the brink of insanity and madness. I'm pretty sure that the person who calls it a new Pilgrim's Progress has either never read that work, or does not know how to read.

It's So Bad. There Is Nothing Redeemable About It. Also, Let's Do A Queer-Reading Of The Text For FunCollapse )

More to come.
